An Update on Covid-19 (March 17, 2020)

We want to send additional updates as they become available to us as to how we are responding to the current Covid-19 Corona Virus outbreak and how it l will affect your case. Since many of our clients have active cases that require making appearances in a NYS courthouse this creates a unique challenge to our ability to access court facilities.

As of March 17, 2020, The NYS Courts will be closing their regular operations and will only be available to continue to provide “critical emergency relief”. This type of relief is only for 5 different types of cases and usually involve civil liberties. For example a child protective case where a child is about to go into foster care or a Juvenile delinquency case where they are looking to remand the child.

Effective March 17, all existing scheduled court proceedings will be administratively adjourned by the court clerk usual without input by the attorneys. Adjourn dates will be mailed and/or transmitted by email to litigants. The court will not dismiss cases based upon the non-appearance of parties and/or counsel. The cases will be administratively adjourned.

If you would like to check on an adjourn date you can use the e-courts system. Using the docket number or file number of your case you can enter it to find your rescheduled court date. If you would like to check please go here.

The best way to reach us at this time is by email, text or your previously issued secure client portal. Office visits are by appointment only.

email can be sent to martin@martinmohrlawfirm.com or a text messages can be sent to (718) 737-9669

Please make sure to include your name and contact information. Please bear in mind that this increased volume may cause some delay in responding to any specific request.

Health Information

If you, a family member or someone you have been in contact with is experiencing fever, shortness of breath, persistent cough and body aches please do not come to court. To get healthy, protect yourself and those around you we strongly consider that you :

  • Stay Home
  • Isolate Yourself. Really – don’t go out.
  • Treat with over-the-counter medicines
  • Drink plenty of fluids
  • Wash your hands well with soap and water and avoid touching your face
  • Continue with this regimen until you feel healthy

If you do decide to be outside please protect others by:

Washing Hands Frequently

Use soap and water for visibly dirty hands (20 seconds) or an alcohol-based hand rub (at least 60% alcohol) frequently for non-visibly dirty hands.

Practice Respiratory Hygiene

When coughing and sneezing, cover mouth and nose with a flexed elbow or tissue – discard tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub.

Maintain Social Distancing

Maintain at least 6 feet distance between yourself and other people, particularly those who are coughing, sneezing and have a fever. If you are too close, you can breathe in the virus.
